Accuracy is your priority in transcription
Accuracy in medical transcription is more important than speed. Whatever timesaving methods I employ, I never compromise accuracy. I never try to guess what the doctor meant. If I am unsure, I follow my company’s policy for leaving it blank. I run spellchecker and grammar check and then proofread carefully. A slight variation in a medical term can dramatically change its meaning (example: symptomatic and asymptomatic.) Most medical transcription agencies have QA departments that routinely check their transcriptionists for accuracy. My employer requires 99% but prefers 100%.
