TRANSCRIPTIONology – medical transcriptionist employment
I have always felt fortunate to be doing a job that I love and with the current double-digit unemployment rate I have I come to appreciate it even more. I am a home-based medical transcriptionist. I work as an independent contractor through a medical transcription agency. I have specific physician accounts and type primarily office notes and consultations with the occasional independent medical examination and personal project thrown in. I specialize in orthopedics, more because it was available than out of any particular affinity to the field.
I do find what I am typing interesting and the job isn’t what I would consider hard but it’s the ability to work from home and the flexible hours that make me love my job. This was especially true when my children were younger and I scheduled transcription time around car pools, baseball games and dentist appointments. Certainly with gas prices what they are I appreciate working from home and casual Friday is every day for me.
I find one drawback to working from home. I miss out on the friendship and advice of others in my field. My hope is to offer advice and assistance to other medical transcriptionists through a medical transcription help site, as well as develop a medical transcription networking site. I would love to be the place where we meet up to share our good and bad experiences, where we help each other maximize our earnings and decrease our downtime, and where newbies look for mentoring.
I hope you like my site!
